Final feedback

feedback from other class.

genre: "this is a rock genre that has a typical back story of a bad relationship between a boyfriend and girlfriend. all the clothes represent the type of genre it is as well. no band performance which helps to create more of an atmosphere with the story."

relationships: "the way that the lyrics and visuals relate worked well. characters are well established, which made it visually pleasing to watch. maybe some effects could have been added to make it more interesting to watch. chorus was the most related part to lyrics."

camera-work:"very samey shots of singing, all either left or right, same distance good perspective shot of ruth throwing stuff. good that it finishes as it begins (phone up and down). mainly medium shots needs more variety. good close-up shots at the beginning."

editing: "alot of the lip-synching is out, like the thumping shots that went well with the music. nice quick clean shots. some editing doesn't really fit with the music."

mise en scene: "setting worked well.(sawston represent!!!!) ruth good at acting, liked the fight bit. good use of colour-red coat etc. good framing of shots. like zooming out parts. ruth got good hair. this video is wicked ! :]"

Comparison

We are comparing our video for The Rumble Strips - No Soul with The Little Ones - Lovers Who Uncover.

This is similar to our video because it is a relationship video which is integrated with performance. It is similar to ours because it had the same balance between narrative and performance. The narrative and the performance intertwine when the band are playing in locations where the narrative has been or is occurring.

These are screen-grabs of 2 shots of a phone being put down in both our and the little ones video. this shows a connection between performance, narrative and mise en scene in our music video and theirs.

Roles in the Group

We were all involved in everything, however we had some responsibilties fell more onto some more than others.

Rosie had the role of producer as she was involved in arranging the shoots, and making sure people, props and filming equipment were where they needed to be, when they needed to be there. She also was the main source of contact between performers and film-makers. Cathie also had input into this as she lived closest to Rosie.

The director position was taken on by all of us. Rosie encouraged the performers, Hannah made shot desicions, such as the angles, and framing, Cathie visualised the look of the video, and Sarah oversaw the editing.

Hannah and Cathie shared the role of cinematographer. Cathie worked out how to achieve the visions we had, and came up with ideas on shoooting the shots, while Hannah used her techinical knowledge to oversee the use of the camera.

We all edited. Hannah did most of the physical editing but we all oversaw it, putting in our opinions and making decisions. We all did our own sections of editing.

Production Methods

Planning:

We all took different roles in the group and worked together as a team in different areas of our production. The planning was mainly done by Cathie and Rosie who had most of the ideas together. We all helped to organize different things such as calls to each other and getting to the locations. Rosie mainly organize the schedule which helped us to get things done on time and in the right locations. We all helped to bring resources and props and equipment into the group for example Rosie helped with the costume, Sarah provided the speakers for the Ipod which Hannah provided and Hannah also provide and camera and tripod on one shoot.

Pre-production:

Cathie and Rosie went out and shoot test footage which we edited together and discussed the different types of shots used and which ones we liked and thought looked good. We decided to put an effect on it afterwards. We added a blue filer and we decided that we would put this effect on the final piece.

Shooting:

Everyone took turns and shooting. We tried to discuss each shot as group deciding things like framing, movements etc.

Editing:

We worked on editing as a group discussing everything we did. We didn't use any transitions but just used straight cuts. We matched are editing to the music. We started by lip-syching and then went on to assembling are footage. Hannah zoomed out cut by cut on some shots.

Post Production:

We applied a blue filter at the end.

Final Cut

Feedback

Our video got generally good feedback. The quick shots in the flashback that were cut to the music got the most praise from the rest of our class.

Ruths performance was given praise by all, however Aidan was questioned by some because he was thought now to fit the genre of the music.

The last shot was also praised because it was said to give the narrative closure.

It was commented on that we linked the visuals to the lyrics.

Our pitch was also remembered, and then it was said we stuck to it well.

It was said that Aidan could have been re-cast and that the idea was slightly generic.
